INSTITUTIONAL FRAME OF ORGANISATION AND OPERATION OF REGIONS
The Region constitutes a self-existent single Administrative Unit of decentralisation of Government owned Administration with competences of planning, planning, co-ordination and application of policies for economic, social and cultural growth of her geographic region.
As founding law of Region is considered Law 1622/1986 "Local Self-government - Regional Growth - Democratic Planning". The word Region, as is used in the particular law but also in consequent this (Law 2503/1997 - 2218/1994), it has double importance:
• The Region constitutes geographic unit that has concrete limits, territorial extent, population and seat.
• The Region constitutes administrative unit and it is constituted by bodies and services. Bodies of Region are the General Secretary of Region with his services and the Regional Council.
